Habits are Helpful

How do you practice self-care?

I used to neglect my self-care because of the same old excuses…

I’m busy

I don’t have time

The day is already over so what is the use

However, reading a book called Atomic Habits and listening to some good YouTube influencers who practice self-care has helped me.

Still a beginner, but taking it more seriously.

Some habits with the following cue, craving, reward and response that I have started for my self-care are…

  1. Do not open my phone until 1 hour or 2 when I wake up
  2. Drinking water when I wake up
  3. Trying to sleep early and prioritize sleep
  4. Eating more healthy food and making my meal plan to try new recipes
  5. Exercise in the morning and walking more to help my well
  6. Create a morning and night skincare routine
  7. Meditation when I work at home to reset my mind
  8. Journaling: writing how I felt on paper than keeping it in and becoming mentally unwell
  9. New Hobbies & Comfort Zone. I’m trying to grow more as a person by putting myself out there where its uncomfortable
  10. Limit screen time and reading books

Home, Work & Life (Sacrifices)

What sacrifices have you made in life?

Well, recently, I have made a lot of sacrifices in my life because of the world around me. But because of my delicate situation…

Like, for instance, I moved to a new building around 2 to 3 years ago, and it’s not even close to my workplace. I wanted to move closer in the area to the townhouse or a condo, but I had to sacrifice because of my brother, my mom, and my dad….

All of their workplaces are closer by car to our building. So I know I have to make the sacrifice to take buses, subways or pay a lot for Uber just to get back and forward

Instead of getting a car out since there is jo place in my building and insurance has been getting more and more expensive…

I ride four buses to work, twice a day during the week.

There’s this part of me that I wish I could just run away and move out, but the world around me saying otherwise with the economy being so expensive for housing, internet, and food. It’s a mind numbing of a sacrifice to go through.

Sometimes I sacrifice my happiness because of the strictness and expectations of my parents. Sometimes I can’t go to places by myself because of their old-fashioned ways just saying that I’m  a girl and that’s dangerous all the time out there.

Cold…Used to it, Not a Fan

How do you feel about cold weather?

As a person who was born in Canada for all her life and has experienced the high and lows of cold weather….

Gotta say not a fan….

Cold weather is always bothersome because it never goes away quickly when winter starts.

The weather can be a pain especially of the opposite effect I have observed for years in Toronto.

When it’s not snowing a lot, it’s damn freezing….

When it’s not freezing, it’s snowing too much…

So you are either gonna catch a cold, get frostbite and can get sick easily or you get stuck on the road for how long and slippery conditions make it hard to drive….

Overthink

What could you do less of?

Overthinking is such a bad habit of mine…..

It’s caused me auch anxiety. Yeah, a lot of stress. And I wish I could get rid of it, but it still persists me till this day.

“To think too much is a disease.” – Fyodor Dostoyevsky

I could do a lot less of overthinking, and then I would be a little bit more relaxed. I wouldn’t have to second-guess myself most often. But or I wouldn’t have to go through the stress of the thinking in the past or in the future, or I was just wondering about the situation right now.

If I didn’t overthink so much, or if I could do it less, I would even have better sleep.

“Most of us never stop to consider our blessings; rather, we spend the day only thinking about our problems. But since you have to be alive to have problems, be grateful for the opportunity to have them.”
– Bernie Siegel
