Modern in the Right Direction

What traditions have you not kept that your parents had?

My parents are not decorating or festive decorators, or put in the effort into making the holiday special other than going to church.

Or even coming to the festivities other than praying and giving grace.

For example, they’ve never cooked a Turkey on Thanksgiving. That’s something that I had to bring up.

I believe that decorating and sharing the festivities in going out, seeing a pumpkin patch, or going to the local farms is a tradition, and cooking turkey is a good tradition as well.

They don’t really do Christmas decorations or go around the tree. And putting up decorations to get into the Christmas spirit, I had to introduce that to make things lighter and festive.

Even with making up games something I like to put a tradition on. So we can just laugh and play with each other. They didn’t do that in their time because they didn’t celebrate Christmas festively and uniquely back in Africa.

They would randomly go around the shops and visit from sitting outside and just talk for hours.

That’s fine, but I think it’s important for me to part with my very own traditions which I see as a very nice part to invoke in the future for me and future family.

Christmas & New Years

What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?

Of course, I don’t like winter,

But I really love the Christmas holidays…

Also, there is a special grace and appeals to the New Year’s

Those two are my favorite holidays because of the nice childhood memories that I have and the fun I get always preparing for the holidays. All the decorating, warming up, and seeing the festivities when I stroll through the streets

Plus, the songs and carols are great to listen to

Some sort of magic or there’s something interesting that is happening on holidays that I really appreciate it every year.

Also, a good tradition with watching Chrustnas and New Years specials on TV… especially Peanuts.

I have fun dancing. I have fun spending time with my relatives. I think I haven’t seen all the interesting festivals that I wish I could go out to.

With New Year’s, it is always great to see the fireworks and thank God that a new year has come.

Happy New Year

Happy New Year,

Sorry for the delay.

It’s been a while since the last blog post.

I’ve just been really overthinking and a bit stressed when the year started out. But it’s kind of complicated and being so busy. Let’s see, it’s hard, but i’m trying my best.

But I have learned that I really like to grow within this community and am really happy and wanna work on it.

I think I’m going to follow through with my own personal growth on a quote that I heard from the movie, Sing.

It’s when Buster Moon says, “You know what’s great about being at the bottom the only way now ay now up.”

Interior Design & Draeing

How are you creative?

Merry Christmas 🎄 🎅

I’m a bit creative sometimes. I’ve been getting more into interior design. Just as a beginner, I would love to learn more.

I just realized that if I had my place on my own?

How would I have decorated?

What would I find things that really represent me?

I’m also creative by just drawing or photography because that’s what i’m more interested in now, just exploring taking pictures of nice, unforgettable moments that I see to capture.

Turkey with Jollof Rice

Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

Well…
Can I say you can’t go wrong with a good turkey.

Usually my family doesn’t cook that much during the holidays because we usually go out.

But recently we decided to do more home cooked meals and decided to make a nice turkey, and it is a holiday favorite.

Since we do live our culture food, we will always cook or get some Gillette rice and make some special stews or soups just to immerse in our culture and enjoy the holidays.

A Theme, Reminiscing & Holiday Chillaxing

How do you celebrate holidays?

On any holiday, whenever Easter, Thanksgiving, and towards Christmas, it’s always nice to decorate a bit, to set a positive mood.

Also, viewing a lot of holiday themed episodes and movies is a must…

*Charlie Brown themed movies are a personal favorite*

Plus, it’s the holidays. Nothing beats a time to lay down and relax.

Just kick your feet up and appreciate the nice break that comes…
